Project outline: The aim of this project is to undertaken a science review of the existing South African knowledge base on five targeted areas of marine plastic pollution, namely, (i) Sources and pathways of marine plastic litter (both inland and marine) ; (ii) Transport and fate of marine plastic litter; (iii) Ecological impacts of marine plastic litter (biota and human health); (iv) Ecosystem service and economic impacts of marine plastic litter; and (v) Marine plastic litter monitoring and methods.
