Grant holder: Dr M John
Duration: 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2019
Project outline: This project deals with the diversification of agricultural wastes from landfills. The use of waste products such as bagasse and maize stalk residues as a suitable raw material feedstock for beneficiation into high value products will be investigated. As the starting materials for production of bioplastics, biomass wastes have attractive potentials for large-scale industries and community level enterprises. This project will focus on developing a range of biopolymers from individual fractionated components of biomass waste residues and establish the end-of-life options for these novel products.
