Industry-meets-Science Workshop Series

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

As part of the implementation of the Waste Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Roadmap, the Department of Science and Technology held an "Industry-meets-Science" Workshop on bioplastics, on the 21 January 2016.

» Workshop Report

Objective : The aim of these Industry-meets-Science workshops is to –

  • Highlight the problems industry/business face with respect to the waste stream, to ensure that RDI is directed to addressing key issues
  • Showcase to industry current RDI initiatives by South African Universities and Science Councils, that may benefit the sector
  • Jointly identify priority issues that require new directed research

Outcomes : The intended outcomes of the workshop are –

  • Opportunity for industry to build networks with specialists from the research community and obtain insights into possible RDI of relevance to their organisation
  • A draft Research Agenda for WEEE to guide the sector's future investment in research, development and innovation, and
  • Support the uptake of industry research needs into the implementation of the 10-year Waste RDI Roadmap
